How the Village Drill works

The Village Drill works by using a winch to control the descent and retract the drill string at completion

The Village Drill is operated by spinning the input wheel (or using the electric motor to spin the wheel) while lowering the drill string using the hand-operated winch or ram.

The cuttings—the rocks and soil produced by the drilling process—are removed as a mixture of water and bentonite (mud) that is pumped down the drill pipe through the bit, and forced back up to the surface through pressure provided by the drill pump.

At the surface, the cuttings are removed from the fluid mixture as they fall to the bottom of the small settling pond. The mud then flows to an adjacent pond to be recycled back into the borehole to remove more cuttings.
